- Context

A theoretical post-doctoral position is offered for up to 2 years to study quantum foundations at the Institut Néel in Grenoble, France. The objective of the project is to investigate how the newly developed field of quantum information allows one to shed a new light on long-standing fundamental problems in quantum foundations.

- Objectives and means available

The position is funded by the ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche) project “Quantum Foundations in the light of Quantum Information”. Various questions in quantum foundations will be studied, including quantum nonlocality, the uncertainty principle, interpretations of quantum theory, and quantum causality. One goal is to foster the study of quantum foundations at the Institut Néel, in close contact with experimental groups.
The candidate will be working in close collaboration with Cyril Branciard, within the group of Alexia Auffèves at the Institut Néel. He/she will interact on an everyday basis with the other group members and will benefit from their expertise in a large range of domains, including quantum optics, cavity quantum electrodynamics, circuit QED, quantum thermodynamics, quantum information, and quantum foundations.

- Possible collaboration and networking

The candidate will further benefit from the wide national and international collaborative network already established by A. Auffèves and C. Branciard, and is expected to also develop new collaborations with international experts in quantum foundations and quantum information.

- Required profile

The candidate should have a theoretical PhD in physics, with a specific, demonstrated expertise in quantum foundations and/or quantum information science. Experience in computer science, in classical information theory, in quantum thermodynamics and/or in collaborations with experimental groups will be a plus. A high level of independent thinking is expected.

- Salary : 2500 € to 3500 € / month before taxes, depending on the candidate’s experience.
