Description of the scientific framework
The team QILM at LPMC is looking for an Experienced Researcher (ER) position, i.e. a post-doctoral fellow, on Integrated Quantum Photonics, more specifically on Integrated quantum relay and on-demand photon-number states generation chips.
Objectives of this ER position
- Exploit integrated optics for designing highly efficient devices for on-chip qbit generation and manipulation;
- Integrated quantum relay and on-demand photon-number states generation chips with optimized input-output loss of < 3 dB and a modulation regime on the order of 1 MHz so as to match the deliverable of the PICQUE project.
Tasks and methodology
- Exploit lithium niobate for modulating the refractive index at high speed through the electro-optic effect;
- Exploit LPMC proprietary “proton exchange” techniques for waveguides fabrication so as to attain low-voltage operation regime;
- Variable couplers and WDMs will be developed and integrated with several other elementary functions.
Additional requirements
Working with photonic qubits involves hands on manipulation of lasers, optical systems, single-photon detection, guided-wave optics, as well as high-speed electronics. Thus, the work is experimentally very multifaceted. Besides the experimental work, a solid theoretical understanding will be necessary, and the candidate will also be expected to be able to work within a team.

Training network and required skills
The recruited ESR will be part of the ITN, which means that he/she will be granted access to the training activities of the PICQUE project, such as school of physics, management, and entrepreneurship.
The goal of the PICQUE consortium is to establish a world-class training platform spreading around the highly interdisciplinary/inter-sectorial European-led area of integrated quantum photonics. The PICQUE objectives are to:
- strengthen research in this new and extremely fast developing strategic research field;
- teach and train the next generation of scientists, team leaders, lecturers and entrepreneurs;
- bring together the key complementary areas (and hence groups) important for establishing a European quantum integrated photonics community;
- involve in close collaborations all the major European companies having a business connected with Quantum information science (QIS).
Eligibility criteria
Researchers can be of any nationality. They are required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e. move from one country to another) when taking up their appointment.
Experienced Researchers (post-docs) must, at the time of appointment, either be in possession of a PhD degree, irrespective of the time taken to acquire it, or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree (Diploma/MSc) which formally allowed them to embark on a doctorate in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the host country (irrespective of whether or not a doctorate was envisaged). The research experience of an experienced researcher (post-doc) appointed for initial training may not exceed 5 years at the time of the appointment.
