Aims of this thematic
This thematics deals with the exploitation of quantum systems as new generation sensors. For instance, the resonance frequency of atoms (in the form of vapours, or trapped in a cristal as is the case in diamond-based NV centres) depends on the magnetic field, making them potential high-sensitivity sensors. Beyond the application aspect, having sensors made of very quantum systems allows studying more fundamental questions: what is the ultimate sensitivity offers by quantum physics ? what is the best strategy for given quantum measurements ? can we exploit non-classical states of matter and/or light (squeezed states, Schrödinger cats, etc.) to augment the sensitivity ?
